What to Expect During an Endoscopy

If your GP has recommended an endoscopy or colonoscopy, you might feel a bit unsure about what to expect. These are common procedures used to look inside your digestive tract and help identify causes of symptoms such as abdominal pain, reflux, or changes in bowel habits.

During an endoscopy, a thin, flexible camera is used to carefully examine the lining of your oesophagus, stomach, or bowel. The procedure is usually quick, safe, and performed under light sedation for comfort.

The main benefit of endoscopy is clarity - it provides real answers and helps guide the best treatment plan. Whether that means medication, a minor procedure, or reassurance that everything looks healthy, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what’s happening inside your body.
